Zum Abschluss der Ausstellungsserie If a Tree Falls in a Forest and No One Is Around, Does It Even Make a Sound? präsentiert Jakob Spengemann seine Klanginstallation A Show From Those in This Audience of One. Die Arbeit vereint unterschiedliche Tonaufnahmen von Menschenansammlungen, die nach Emotionalitäten in einer übergeordneten Partitur sortiert sind. Als akustische Abdrücke einer vergangenen kollektiven Anwesenheit geistern sie durch den Ausstellungsraum, wo sie auf das dortige Publikum treffen. Ein einsames Mikrofon im Scheinwerferlicht erweckt dabei die Erwartung einer Aufführung, die sich nur bedingt einlöst. Die Geräuschkulisse, die von den Anwesenden produziert und vom Mikrofon eingefangen wird, bestimmt die Intensität des Echos der Abwesenden. So rückt das Publikum selbst in den Fokus der Arbeit, dessen Reaktionen im Raum wie durch ein Möbiusband mit den aufgezeichneten Publikumsgeräuschen verbunden sind.

For the finale of the exhibition series If a Tree Falls in a Forest and No One Is Around, Does It Even Make a Sound?, Jakob Spengemann presents his sound installation A Show From Those in This Audience of One. The work combines different sound recordings of gatherings of people, which are sorted according to their emotionalities in a superordinate score. As acoustic imprints of a past collective presence, they spook through the exhibition space, where they encounter the audience there. A lonely microphone in the spotlight evokes the expectation of a performance, which is only partially realized. The soundscape produced by those present and captured by the microphone determines the intensity of the echo of those absent. Thus, the audience itself becomes the focus of the work, whose reactions in the room are connected to the recorded audience sounds as if by a Möbius strip.
